As we put our whites away and dust off the coats, it was the last hurrah of sample sales this past weekend here in the BK. I’m sure there will be more–the end of the season stragglers who couldn’t get their heads together to throw their stuff on the sidewalk and sit outside for a day. But once it gets cold here, forget it. I will be in a stoop sale mourning period until next Spring.
This week I met a couple who actually live in another state while subleasing their apartment to some friends. They drove up here with all of their merchandise and had a 1/4 block stoop sale. They had so much stuff they took up a whole 1/4 of a block. Clothes, books, records, you name it. Needless to say, I was in heaven.
Buying jewelry second hand is beyond fabulous HOWEV….be weary of pierced earrings. You don’t know where they came from, who was wearing them or where they have been kept. Please keep in mind that this can cause a serious infection if overlooked. Just soak in rubbing alcohol for 1/2 hour to kill any bacteria. Also if you don’t want soak the whole earring then wipe posts with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol. No worries from here on out.
