Just ask!

Yesterday after thinking about getting out of bed for half an hour, I actually did. I go to the kitchen and much to my anticipated surprise, my cupboards were bare. So here I am schlepping to the grocery store.

I’m strollin’ down the street minding my business and I stumble upon three young women having a stoop sale. (yay!) After perusing through their rack of vintage clothes I said to myself: “No wonder they are trying to get rid of these clothes….. Honestly, their rack looked like they hijacked a bus of old ladies on their way to a mah-jong convention. There’s nothing worse than a cross between bad mah-jong outfits and a retired art teacher’s discarded wardrobe. It was even scarier in person. So I cruise over to the jewelry and see that two of the women have a lot of Nigerian and African inspired jewelry. Nice, but not my personal taste.

Scanning the rest of the items with my internal fashion bargain radar, I just said out of left field, “Do you have anything else, like, other accessories that you would like to sell?” She looked at me with one eyebrow raised and said; “I think I have some old belts.” She returned with tons of suede and sash belts that were great; just not what I needed. I then saw this red rocker 1980′s faux leather leopard print belt. It was love at first sight. PS. It was 50 cents.

Nothing to celebrate the end of summer like buying a dress that is getting ready to go out of season. Leave it to me!

So a woman who sells costume jewelry at a flea market that I frequent had three dresses hanging behind her. She has never had clothes before to my knowledge and I thought to myself……”hmmmmm…that sure looks like my size.” Knowing this required further investigation, I asked her the price. She told me it was $15.00. I reported back to my other half and I said, “Wouldn’t you love to see this on me?” When I told him that it was $15.00, he then told me that he would love to see it on me for $10.00. I told the lady that it would be completely wrong for the universe if I didn’t have this dress; that it would just be unjust for all mankind. She agreed and I got her down to $12.00. Yay me!

I wore it the next week and how many compliments did I get? OMG.
