Ebay it, Baby! Part 2

I heard that Ebay is one of the greatest websites to sell used and new goods. The great thing about this site is that they have a category for anything and everything from “slightly weird” to “totally bizarre”.

The great news is: There are tons of people selling their used clothes and accessories on Ebay and similar auctioning sites. Why do you care? Because you can sell your unwanted clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelry, bags and anything else for decent money. This is what you can do:

You
get together:

  • Clothes that are in your closet that still have the tags
  • those purple plaid shoes that jumped into your bag that were on sale and you wore once and never again
  • the purse you got from your sister on your last birthday that you thought that would “grow” on you, but unfortunately never did
  • The chunky beaded matching necklace and bracelet set that your “Secret Santa” at work gave to you at last year’s holiday party

Next, you:

  • Review the conditions of the items you would like to list. Now listen closely: Something brand new that has never been worn (NWT) (New with tags) is always worth a shot. Recognizable DESIGNER items always sell however if your item isn’t a well known designer; if it is brand new with the original tags, it’s still in the game.
  • Anything broken, stained or looks “used” isn’t usually a good bet as people want quality items that they won’t have to repair or re clean.
  • Take photos of your items. Most likely you will have to use a third party photo site. (Village Photos, Photobucket, etc.) You will need to include at least five shots. Front, back, side, up close of print of fabric, inside tags, up close of buttons, trim or special quality of the garment. I recommend hanging your garments on a hanger and taking pictures of them hanging on the front door of your closet or blank wall. If you can get someone to wear them for you; even better; but no face shots. It distracts buyers from the item.

Next, you:

  • Create an account on ebay (or whatever site you are using).
  • Follow the instructions on how to “sell” an item.
  • Upload your photos when prompted and use accurate descriptions of the garment. Remember you are SELLING. Which sounds better: Pink Poly Long Dress size M or Rose Pink Spaghetti Strap Elegant Poly Floor Length Dress Size M? The choice is clear.

Now, you:

  • Get to gathering.
  • Take Photos.
  • Register on whatever site you like; I recommend Ebay to start.
  • Follow instructions for “how to sell”.
  • List your item.
  • Sell your item.
  • Make money.
  • Repeat.
